Frequently asked questions
What if I am shy?
Tae Kwon-Do builds confidence; beginners' classes are structured so that no-one feels embarrassed or
incapable. All beginners train together at the beginners' sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays.
What do I need to wear when I start?
As a beginner you can wear a tracksuit, loose clothing, trainers.
I want to get my black belt as quickly as possible!
It takes a minimum of three and a half years training to get to black belt 1st Dan.
Your instructor will tell when you are ready to grade.
How do I progress through the ranks of Tae Kwon-Do?
There is a high standard at Groby Tae Kwon-Do and the instructor, Sheryl Freer,
will put a student forward for a grading only if the student has reached the required standard.
The belts of Tae Kwon-Do are listed below together with the minimum training times required before a student can progress onto the next belt.

Sessions always begin with a warm up (typically 10 to 15 minutes long) and will then include elements from the list below:
- Patterns
- Sparring
- Interval/fartlek type training adapted for Tae Kwon-Do
- Line work
- Sparring drills
- Kicking drills
- Punching drills
- Pad work
- Knife defense
