Located to the west of England, Wales is one of the countries that makes up the United Kingdom (along with England, Scotland and Northern Ireland). But unlike England and Scotland, Wales is bilingual, which means its citizens speak either English, Welsh or both. Unfortunately, Welsh is considered a dying language, and it's estimated that as little as 20 percent of the entire Welsh population speaks the ancient language, although that percentage has been even less in recent years.
Major cities and towns in Wales include Briton Ferry, Llandudno, New Quay, Pembroke, Swansea, Wrexham and, of course, the capital, Cardiff. In years gone by, Cardiff used to be the largest coal port in the world. Economically, over the last few centuries Wales has been a large mining concern, with natural resources that include coal, gold, lead, silver, iron and copper.
